Background color and Christmas lights
For some unknown reason, the background to new blog posts start as gray while using my blogwriter. It didn't used to be. A few to several months ago I was messing like I always do, trying to cleanup "unneeded' files so that my system would hopefully run faster. I was trying to compensate for the low RAM in my computer. Perhaps I was compacting folders, like the program folder. I honestly don't remember. All I know is that one day I noticed the background and tried to change it back to white, which remains an unresolved issue. What's weird, at least to me, is that once it's published to my blog site, it's white again. About that RAM I was trying to compensate for... it's no longer an issue because we saved our pennies for a while and finally purchased a 1Gb stick of it from a computer store.
Now that it's time to put up those outside holiday lights on the front of the house, it's been too cold. Of course not technically. LOL. It's just that it hasn't felt like a major priority. My first priority you ask? Is to stay warm whenever possible, except in those rare cases of an emergency, or something that absolutely has to be done. As the day of winter parties worldwide approaches, it's working it's way up the to-do list. I procrastinate for a few reasons. 1) We live very rural and have very little traffic, so 2) Not many people to impress, Er, cheer-up I mean. lol 3) Christmas lights haven't become a tradition (2nd year), yet, because I'm a new convert to getting into the holiday spirit. Yep, I used to be somewhat of a curmudgeon. lol

T, R, A, and E halloween 2010
Didn't do a lot, but we did get turned into zombies, so we went into the local town. A collegue of my daughter invited us to the parking lot of the 1st Baptist church in Buffalo so see other people's costumes. Oddly enough, we were the only zombies there. Go figure. lol.

Antivirus software
Have you tried the free antivirus software from Panda Cloud? And/or another free program from AVG? What I'm trying to figure is if one is better than the other. I need one that uses fewer CPU resources since I only have 512 MB of RAM. Opinions/reviews please. Thanks.

Internet connectivity and speed
--
As for accurately checking our connection speed online, we had previously been led to one for our state at http://bransonspeedtest.net, but when I was talking to customer support on Wednesday she asked me to go to http://speedtest.net cause they feel it's more accurate. While talking to the repair tech on the phone yesterday I checked the speed at bransonspeedtest and got about 1.3 megabits/sec, but each time I redid it, got slower and slower results, even slower at speedtest.net. So now I don't know which one to believe. The customer support, on the phone, told me yesterday that our "Margin (db)" should be a minimum of 8.0. This morning, as of 15 seconds ago it's at * 4.9* - whatever that means. Yesterday it was around 5.3. *shrug* Yes, they reminded me a few times that "you're right at the end of the DSL connectivity range". I was, "Yeah, we have been for a few years now and our speed has been mostly stable at 1.5 MBps". *sigh* Quite frankly I'm still baffled that NASA can communicate with a robot on Mars wirelessly, but for DSL 18K feet is the "limit"? Makes no sense to me!

Anyway, today is my DD's 18th birthday. She got birthday pie for breakfast before heading off to work. It was pumpkin pie in case you're wondering.

Clicking the picture above will take you to the page on Facebook where you can support the cause. $10 is JUST a suggestion. Clicking (at Facebook) the little arrow on the right gets you a drop-down menu for amounts to donate. ANY help will be VERY appreciated.
