Repairing water damage

We've discovered that the roof on top of the house has leaked which caused water damage to the ceiling in the upstairs bedroom. Wasn't exactly sure how to very inexpensively seal the gaps on the tin roof since we haven't been able to afford to buy roof sealant to spread over it. Then the other day I remember that we had some old indoor/outdoor paint in the shed. Thinking I could perhaps just pour it over the gaps, I open a couple of the cans only to find out the paint had gone bad (oil on top and mostly solid). Yesterday I got the thinking and decided that tape could be temporarily used until we get some sealant. Today I went up onto said roof and used the rest of our duct tape and some of the packing tape we have to cover a few of the gaps over that part of the house. Was all going well until I got about 3/4 of the way down and started slipping, barely managing to get enough foot-grip to get back to the top. At that point I decided it was time for a break and came in. Then I took the camera and took a couple of pictures.

My first vlog

Very short, very beginner

Google Chrome vs Internet Explorer 8

Don't really know if it's a big deal or not. My wife noticed last night after she was on Facebook for a few hours on my son's computer, using Internet Explorer 8, that when she ran a clean using Periform's CCleaner that on .14 Mb was cleaned. Thought that was odd because after she uses my computer for Facebook, using Google Chrome, that the clean usually shows several megabytes (depending on how long @ Facebook). We've also noticed that on my computer, Facebook, using Chrome, that it 'hangs' frequently and/or has to do 're-syncing' a lot too. Anyway, just out of curiosity I ran a little experiment on using my computer to see if I.E.8's post Facebook clean when less on this computer. Wondered because my wife's mini notebook computer also uses I.E.8 and after Facebook the clean shows 20, 30 or more Mb's.

-

With Google Chrome with ALL 'add ons' disabled I went to the log-in page (didn't matter if I logged in or not) of Facebook and this was my clean results

-

Did the same thing using I.E.8 and here's those results

Must say that even though it seems that I.E. uses less disk space, that I still prefer G. Chrome BECAUSE of the cool ad-ons you can get (ad blockers, weather displays, stuff like that). I don't which is better , I guess it depends on your perspective.

St. Patrick's Day, Oestara, Birthday

Irish yoga shirt

Today in the U.S.A (and possibly other countries) it's St. Patrick's Day. Woo. Although I'm of Irish decent, primarily because of my last name, this particular 'Holiday' doesn't hold much of my interest. Yes I am wearing green (shirt) because "that's just what you do" according to the tradition of this day. I am only wearing it because I had it on yesterday and at bedtime my wife mentioned that my DD was also wearing her 'Irish' shirt yesterday, so I just put it back on this morning. Therefore no one can legally pinch me today. *grin*

-

Then of course this coming Saturday (3-20) will be Oestara. So today we picked up some chocolate and candy filled plastic eggs to hide and seek. Though our kids are a bit old to do the "Easter egg hunt". Ya never know though, they might want to, or I might even for that matter. Just depends on whether or not we're in the holiday spirit when the day comes.

-

Then on the 25th of March it's going to be my wife's birthday. So as you can see, we've got plenty of things to celebrate this month. Not a good time of year to try and be zero or even low carb. Just ain't gunna happen. LOL.

Pics of a dog, 2 cats, and a bird

I took these pictures several days ago and just remembered a couple of them when I was moving a recent one to my pictures folder.

Clicking on a picture will make it bigger :)

Moon napping on the computer's printer. "How does she breathe?" is what I was wondering when I took this.

This is just one of about 10 of the normally in trees Cardinals we had in our yard the other day.

Day in the big city and home again

We had a pretty good day. We went to the mall in the big city of Springfield after we went to a beauty supply store and stopped by The Next Generation tattoo place to get a price on a small tattoo that my wife is thinking about. The size she wants will cost around $80, so we'll start saving so she can get it.

-

The 1st thing we did once we got into the mall was go to the food court. Was surprised a little that about 4 of the restaurants had closed down. Luckily the ones that we still open were the ones we usually get food from anyway. That was Arby's and some pizza place. Lunch was good.

-

pic of Wii game play Then we wondered around (mostly straight to Game Stop) where the kids bought 2 games for the Wii. As you can see, it didn't take them long to start playing. I know one of the game was a Mario Cart, but don't ask which one.

That shirt and those shoes on the girl are what else she bought for herself using some of her tip money from the Cosmetology College.

pic of burn barrel A couple of days ago we got a new-2-us barrel to burn our trash in. While my wife was napping I took the trash out and burned it. Ain't it purty? LOL. I put a piece of plywood that has been laying out back for a while, on it to keep the rain from filling the barrel and turning any ash in it to mush.

3.8.10 (1).jpgWhile I was out there waiting to put the lid on the barrel I thought I'd see if I could see a hole in our above ground pool's lining that caused it to have a major leak last summer. As you can see, I think I found where the water was leaking from. Not sure if the patch and glue stuff we have in the closet will work. For 1, the liner itself is pretty caked-up with lime residue thus making it somewhat brittle. 2, we've had the patch kit in the bedroom closet for a couple of years. Should still be good, but I won't swear to that. Probably will either just get a new liner or not even bother since we didn't use it all that much before it started leaking last summer anyway.

And THAT was our day!

Teaching by example

You've heard (assuming) that the best way to teach is by example. However, I say that that's NOT true for everyone or everything. For example: Because in this family we have 4 computer geeks/ junkies, I've been limiting *my* computer time more and more. Trying to send the message that there's more to life than computers. Unfortunately, for this family, the only one limiting computer time is me. Perhaps now that Spring is inevitable now, it will be easier/more attractive to get us outside doing more. One can hope. Please don't advise me on how to get others to be more like me, or suggest things for me to suggest them to do... tried everything from riding bikes, scooters, throwing frisbee, shooting hoops, working-out on the Wii, etc, etc, etc.
