Our dog starts barking hysterically whenever she sees the opossum that hangs around all the time. I put the dog in the house, went outside and took this video. It was hard keeping the camera on it
I've lost too many chickens, chicks, and eggs to these chicken monsters to think they are cute. And then there was the time in Corpus Christi where one was hanging out on the landing in my apartment building; it took me a half hour to get past it and up the half flight of stairs to my place. Once I was above it, I could convince it that it wanted to leave. Come to think about it, the worst part of that encounter was my then boyfriend being upset with me when I told him about it because he thought I should have just turned around and went somewhere "safe." I wonder what he would think of me years later grabbing one out of my chicken coop by the tail to be shot by my now husband? They are not endangered and I was protecting my flock--no regrets for that or the ones my dog has killed; one in the coop, one outside the coop, and one endangering one of our cats in the front yard. Oh, and I killed one with a shovel, shooting things does not come natural to me. Opossum have a wicked mouth and breed prodigiously.

Very cute! Our possum only comes out early dawn or late dusk, but I often find tracks and/or hear the weird noise he makes!

IF we still had chickens, we wouldn't let this one or any other opossum live, but since we don't...
We've caught and shot them in our coops back in the day too.
